Quetiapine is an atypical antipsychotic medication used for the treatment of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder. It targets both positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia. It works by changing the actions of chemicals in the brain. Quetiapine is used to treat bipolar disorder (manic depression) in adults and children who are at least 10 years old. It is also used together with antidepressant medications to treat major depressive disorder in adults.
Off-label, in low doses, quetiapine is used for the treatment of insomnia.
It is sometimes used to treat conditions such as Tourette syndrome, musical hallucinations and anxiety disorders.
